Research activities

Our research programme is focused on the development of innovative modelling and inversion techniques and their application to real industry problems for the exploitation of characterising and monitoring of oil and gas reservoirs. Our research program can be classified into four major themes: Full waveform inversion, long wavelength velocity estimation, seismic interferometry and hydro-fracturing and rock mechanics.

These research themes are further broadened by Master of Research projects proposed by our industry partners, such as the development of fibre optics as a seismic sensor or use of rotational sensors, which make the combined GPX teaching and research program unique in the world. The GPX team is very active in publishing our results in wide-range of journals, varying from Geophysics, Geophysical Prospecting to Journal of Geophysical Research, Nature and Science.
